Cecelia Schmidt

English teacher and professional writer

I had wanted to attend the Guild for several years, but didn't have the chance to go until 2018. My experience was unlike any I'd ever had. As an acting student, I had the privilege to work alongside teachers David Sanborn and Rich Swingle. They taught me the fundamentals of acting and helped me hone my skills. I had the opportunity to work on numerous projects with fellow Guild students and also got to act in a short film that the film students produced.

As great as the classes and theater projects were, the Guild was so much more than that. From early morning devotions, to worship in Letchworth State Park, to biblical sessions each night, to conversations with other brothers and sisters in Christ, my relationship with the Lord was strengthened. I had a renewed desire to know God on a deeper level.

The skills I learned at the Guild will stay with me for the rest of my life. I'm continually amazed at how much the Lord used that one week to stretch and grow me in ways I had never experienced before.

Cecelia Schmidt

2018 Alumna

When Cecelia Schmidt was fourteen years old, she wrote her first historical fiction book, "The War Rages On." She went on to write two more books in the trilogy: "The War Within" and "The War's End." For the last five years, she and her family have traveled to homeschool conventions all over the country, selling Cecelia's and her brother's books and speaking on various topics.

While still in high school, Cecelia earned her Associate's degree and has since gone on to earn her Bachelor's degree in English. In February of 2020, she was hired by Apologia Online Academy to teach a new English literature course for middle school, using eight Lamplighter books as the focus.

Cecelia's mom read her first Lamplighter book to her when she was just seven years old. For years, Cecelia has had a desire to create and teach her own curriculum using Lamplighter books and is thrilled to finally have that opportunity.

Cecelia also has a passion for acting and has written numerous plays. Her Guild experience taught her much about the arts, and she has continued to build upon that knowledge for the last two years. In addition to being a teacher online, Cecelia also hopes to audition at Sight and Sound Theaters.
